Congratulations to Will Riney and the Charlotte Knights. They ended up winning the World Series 2 games to 1 against the Dayton Dragons of Ron Cyphers. It is Will's first ever title in MLP and caps off a very consistent season for the Dragons. Will only had one losing streak during the season- a duration of 2 games. Meanwhile, longtime player, Ron Cyphers was denied another title. (His only championship is the defunct Pick-N-Roll League) Like Will, Ron only had one losing streak- it just happened to be the final 2 games of the World Series. He was able to beat two of the toughest teams on the way to the World Series- Intimidators and Lake Monsters.
It was a season where we had a bunch of new teams, and they started off with a strong record. However, many of those teams faded as the season progressed (finishing a combined 23-30) We welcomed the return of Lou's Intimidators and the hiatus seemed to rejuvenated the Kannapolis franchise. They had a terrible 10-27 record before 2010. The Intimidators finished 12-6 and were serious contenders throughout the year. Meanwhile, Nate Bishop had an unbeaten month on the way to league best 14-4 record, but the Lake Monsters fell apart in the post season. We had two teams that finished with solid 10-8 records but did not qualify for the playoffs- Skychiefs and Sea Dogs. The Brooklyn Cyclones started 2-0 and 4-3, but hid a roadblock finishing 6-12. After a terrific rookie year, Sean's Spikes could not buy a win this season, going 10 games under .500. It did not help that they started 0-11. Gary's Charleston Riverdogs were once a powerful team, but now have had 3 terrible seasons. It got so bad, that we actually had Gary start 0-8 and was able to get their first win against Sean's 0-9 team. Meanwhile, the Norfolk Tides made some noise during the midseason, but could not overcome Ray's two forfeits.
It was an exciting 2010 season, where the final playoff spots were not decided until literally the very last day. The three leagues seemed to be somewhat balanced in power. It was a year of many stories. Hope to see you all back for 2010. Once again, great job to Will Riney!
