University Traditions:
*Snake Walk- One of the older FAMU traditions known as the "Snake Walk has recently been brought back to the school. Traditionally, the "Snake Walk" begins at “the Set” (the Student Union) every home game. Students, faculty and auxiliary programs participate, gathering the band and parade down to Bragg Stadium. Currently, it is used only at Homecoming, but the new director of the Office of Student Union and Activities, Michael Clayton is taking it back. "With all that is going on, we're not going to allow anyone to break our spirit" said Clayton.
*Marching 100- A strong tradition of Florida A&M University is the Marching "100" band. The first band at this institution, formerly named the Florida A&M College, was organized in 1892 under the tutelage of P.A. Van Weller. From a meager store of 16 instruments, the Marching "100" has grown to over 250 members. The Marching "100" Band, under the direction of Dr. William P. Foster, was invited by the French government to participate in the Bastille Day Parade as the official representation from the United States. This event was held in celebration of the Bicentennial of the French Revolution. The Marching "100" continues to perfect its legacy of excellence, which has resulted in it being labeled as the "Best Marching Band in the Nation" by Sports Illustrated (August, 1992). The band received national recognition in January 1993, when it performed in the 52nd Inauguration Parade in Washington D.C. by invitation of President-Elect William "Bill" Clinton.
Florida A & M University (FAMU) adopted the colors Orange and Green the same year the school was founded, 1887. In the book OUR COLLEGE COLORS by Henry L. Snyder, it is stated that: "As far as can be determined, the school colors were chosen to represent the major industry in the state (citrus). The Orange colors represent the fruit and the Green the foliage of the magnificent orange groves in Florida."

My favorite memory of college football is during the 1993 season while at FSU. The team score 40+ points 8 times, went 12-1, beat Nebraska for the National Title, had QB Charlie Ward win the Heisman, and beat Florida and Miami.

I chose FAMU as my team because I went to Florida State University (also located in Tallahassee, Florida). With FSU a Division I school, I had to find another team to select and FAMU seemed like a natural choice.
